Safe Perkins 108 Temp & Pressure

I have just replaced the gauges and senders for my 108. The temp
doesn' t seem to go above 165 degrees, and the oil goes to 80psi, and will only drop to around 77psi at idle. My question is, is this acceptable? A buddy says not to worry, but I wonder why the oil pressure is so high. I had thought the old gauge and/or sender was bad as it had read the same 80psi as now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have the same engine and those numbers sound about right.

I have the 4-107. Just about the same engine. Mine runs at 60 psi for the oil and about 180 for the temp. Both our numbers are in the acceptable range. What kind of gauges did you get and where? I'm looking for some myself.

The 165F water temp is a bit low, unless you're raw water cooled. Normally, engine temp should be 180-190F for a closed system. The lower temp spec for a raw water system is to minimize salt precipitation.

Dougyoung, I got Teleflex gauges and senders, from Defender, also a new tach, alternator driven, that won't do anything but "blip" one time when the alternator turns on, and again when I shut the engine down. A friend said to run the battery down a bit, then try again. Gotta say I'm a bit relieved poopdeck's pressure is the same, I do prefer when things operate in the middle (safe) range. btrayfors, I ran the engine in gear for a while to try and get the temp up a bit, it is fresh water cooled, maybe it'll get up higher when run under load for longer. Also, I did just completely overhaul the cooling system. Think I'll do a couple of oil and filter changes this weekend, just for peace of mind.

I have been doing alot of research on this and I will be going with the teleflex gauges as well. The Perkins engines have a mechanical pickup for the tach. This is a much better setup than picking up off the alternator. I have the complete teleflex catalog at work. I'll see if I can't post it tomarrow for you.
