DQ About Loran Antenna

The old Loran is headed for the dumpster but I''m wondering if the stern rail mounted antenna has any use as a backup for the vhf or is the loading dramatically different?

The loran uses a 100khz signal(but the rcvr is only looking for the 30micro second crossover point) and the vhf uses a 159.000 mhz +or- some bandwidth. I dont recomend using the bases for anything other than the prescribed signal remember z=f over v cole

About all you could do with it is maybe junk the insides (amplifier and filters circuit board) and jumper from the coax to the whip. That would make an ok auxilliary shortwave and AM receiving antenna.

Frankly, if it is still a working Loran-C antenna you should sell it on eBay or Sailnet. Working Loran antennas seem to get as much money as a working Loran receiver.
