Question Perkins 4154 Rear Seal

In a process of changing one the mechanic discovered that the cover has signes sugesting that the cranck shaft is taching it.

He is sugesting the engine needs to come out.

I think we can just change the seal cerfuly and be good.

Who has any expirence with this? I need advice.
Context: My boat Nina, is a 43 Amphitrite is now in Istanbul. I sailed it from Boston to the Med few years ago and since am sailing there. This is first time in Istanbul. I am back in Boston till May or so.
