Exclamation Giulietta is in the dry...

She went dry yesterday...

Nothing important. Just new rudder bushings that came lose a week ago.
Damn Harken....ehehehehe

My rudder shaft is aluminium and conical, so the tighter you pull the rudder the more jammed it becomes.

It happens that to keep the boat from sinking if we lose the rudder, the rudder housing tube is pretty tall to stay well above the water level.

So there is a 25mm gap between the upper lower diameter rudder bearing bushing, and the lower one.

Yep...the lower one moved up, and now the thicker part of the rudder shaft was unsupported.

I decided to order new bearings and bushings, so she's on the dry. Time ot replace zincs and check saildrive (oil change also)...

Other than that... she is now being stripped of everything (and I mean everything except the boom, halyards, fixed electronics etc.) to be weighed soon for the new rating number after the changes to the keel.

Lets see what the scale says..I bet with the "diet" she went thru, she's in the 5500Kg now.

Once I can I post a photo

Saildrive? Gee, I always assumed you use a 13X12 fixed three-bladed prop, like me....

We not actually sure he works... I think he's visiting another psychiatric institution when he's supposed to be "working". This is the first documented case of sailing-withdrawal psychosis.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Giu, while the boat is out of the water, you should change the oil in the keel torpedo bulb shark drive; given the recent videos of the boat going to windward at 13 kts, you have been using the drive a lot lately.

Didn't you get a warranty with that boat, Portagee? That darn boat is out of the water more than she's in. Doesn't Portugal have "lemon-laws"? The boom breaks, the keel doesn't work, and now the rudder is falling apart. Who made that boat, the French? It's about as reliable as a Puegot. You oughta consider a Catalina, at least the stove lights every time.

What now??? Is it me now??? Go pick on someone else will you??

Go piss TD off, ok?? He's the one that likes to say inacurate things fished off the net...ooops you do that too, sorry...

yes, I have warranty, for 5 years, meaning I am still covered for another 4.

The builder is redoing the rudder fixing problem and is fabricating a spacer for the rudder bushings. All work is free, and we agreed to share the cost of the travel lift and dry dock time. he's a decent man.

I broke the boom, and there is nothing wrong with the keel, I don't know where you got the idea it did not work. It was improved, part of the optimisation process this boat, as a protoype goes thru. Tell me what boats you know sail in 30 knots without reefing, will you?

Please don't call my boat a lemon, this boat sails and goes thru stuff that the normal catalina or normal boat and its owner would not go thru. It sails in winds that most will not sail into, unless caught in by accident, and it moves, no need to stop, hove to reef or any other crap...it takes the beating and the stress as its gear is calculated and chosen to work in higher than normal loads.

It is an excellent boat, and i resented your remarks.

I have nothing against catalinas and Hunters and any other boat, but please, lets stop this un-funny thing, ok?? I designed my boat, and am very proud of it .

Comparing my boat is saying I copied or cheated..which I did not do.
It is something I made, with my own had hands and expereince...to me its un-comparable. I don't go around other people' work and make remarks like that, and if don't like their work, I either shut up or say nothing or am honest about it. I'm not mad at you SA, you just happened to touch something I am getting tired of. Its getting old.

As for my boat being on the dry, I really hope you were joking.

My boat has done 1847 miles logged since 1st August 2007, when I took delivery of it, I have owned it for 445 days now, meaning it has made an average 4 miles a day.

It has 4 trips to Southern Portugal, 6 races against other class boats and 3 in same class boat. It is sailed with me, by me, almost every day, for 24 miles to the outer mark and back. I don't sail it more because I have to work.

Please tell me who has sailed that in the last year, (exclude the people doing passages and circumnavigations), that ONLY had the problems I had. Assume I sail hard, when I do.

Thanks
