Standard Winch Sizes ?

I am looking to replace my Barient 28 winches. Is the number 28 comparitable to other manufactorer''s size numbers? Is there an industry standard?

In other words should I be looking for Lewmar or Andersen winches with the same or larger # as replacements?

There really is not an industry standard. The number on the winch theoretically represents the anticipated mechanical advantage of the winch ignoring friction. The problem is that some manufacturers include the leverage of the winch handles and other Mfr''s don''t.

Go by the drum and base diameter. Measure your current winches and then compare to others.
