Fender idea

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned. I have a nice cove stripe on my boat but no rub rail. In order to keep from scraping the gelcoat, I have purchased a couple of those long flat fenders. They are VERY expensive, about $50 per... and they are only about 2ft long.

Well... I have tried a new approach and it seems to work great. I got a 3 ft long strip of the bumper that is used on docks... put grommets in two corners and ... bingo... instant long fender. $25. Longer pieces are available too. This helps when approaching a dock with pilings that are uncushioned.. or in place of wood brace.

Hope this helps someone ... and does not embarass me.

Best to all,

John

That sounds like you have discovered the ''fender board''. I carry one on my boat. I typically make them from oak.

Hi Jeff

Yes - very similar and in fact I have one on my boat... but... this way the fender is much lighter and easier to move around. Probably not as strong as a fender board.. but very light.

Best,

John
