Gelcoat nicks on bow

Have a catalina 25 with quite a few gelcoat nicks on the bow--looks like PO didin't do great job of tying her up and bumped the dock some? No moisture on interior, don't appear anything other than superficial, but go from just above waterline to near the trailering hook. Any advice on repair, any experience with this type of situation, using some sort of protective covering, etc? thanks.

If you're not too concerned with perfectly matching the white gelcoat, consider using Marine-Tex to slightly overfill the nicks. When set, shave the surface flush with a single-edge razor, sand with 400 grit - preferably finer, apply/buff a HD fiberglass rubbing compound, polish, then wax.

Otherwise, there are several gel-coat repair kits on the market, with color matching tints.

Try and get the Marine-Tex as close to fair as possible. The stuff sets like concrete.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I'd also go with the MarineTex, it is a no-fuss permanent solution. Then, if you are worried about the bow, add some type of strike plate (i.e. brass or stainless strips welded together to cap over the edge) or other cosmetic trim to cover it up.

Get new sailcovers and sail ties, gussy up the boat, no one will stare at the sharp edge for long.
