How much does everything cost.

It might be useful to post recent repair and maint costs so those of looking a a bigger boat can get an idea of what we might be up against.

Anyone do a repower recently, How much,
Allgrip your deck ??$
New elect system?

Lets talk money!!!

I'll start it off.
My captain spent about $500.00 to replace a boom on a catalina 27
Boom was new from Dwyer. Had to buy a couple new blocks. No shipping Dwyer is in town.
They hit him hard for labor about $150.00 and we attached the mainsheet bails and put it on and off the boat and re-rigged the mainsheet. Expensive jibe yes?

hmmmm...

A new electrical system depends on whether you are doing it or you are having an electrician do it.

Awlgripping the deck... Same thing... are you doing it or you hiring someone to do it.

Repowering—are you replacing the engine yourself or hiring someone...

Almost everything on a boat can be done by a couple of competent people, given time and the will to do so. Hiring someone to do it is far more expensive, and often doesn't result is as good a job.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

sailing dog is right, it all depends on if you're doing the work yourself. I do my own work but I still consider $500 as one boat dollar.

Awlgripping my deck cost about a boat dollar and a whole lot of work (10yrs ago and needs to be repainted, another boat dollar)
Rewiring the whole boat was about five boat dollars and even more work.
I haven't re-powered but I have sunk about two boat dollars into my '76 Volvo

Shrinkwrap a 33 ft hull with two masts up and zippered access door, over my custom frame: $594.

The cost has risen over the previous year, I suppose due to energy/oil price increases.

Doing the work myself, I installed a davit on my boat, cost $1140.00. I could have used an extra set of hands would have made the job go much faster.

Over the last few years I have had the following work done on my 1979 28' Mariner.
Crusing main and 135 genoa, $2800.00
New lifelines, standing rigging and traveler, $2411.00
Installed dripless stuffing box, rewired bilge pump and replaced culess bearing, $1400.00
New Schaefer roller furler, $2660.00
Custom cockpit cushions, $650.00
New mainsail cover, $450.00
All work was professionaly done. Some things can't be broken down as the work was done at the same time.
