Fiberglass Stress Crack in Sliding Cap

Hello Readers,

I have a recently purchased a 1978 Catalina. I noticed that on the sliding cap above the companionway entrance a stress crack on both sides of the slider.

I would like to repair the slider so that the stress crack doesn't spread. Owners of older Catalina boats may know about these areas where stress cracks are apt to occur.

I have attached a few pics showing the cracks in the slider.

Your advice is appreciated.

Add a couple of layers of cloth to the sliding hatch...the only real way to get rid of stress cracks is to re-inforce the area so they can stand the stress...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
