Work needed in Daytona Beach FL
My wife and I are in the process of buying a boat that will need some work done, some I will do myself, but I want to price some of the other work. Can anyone suggest people in the Daytona Beach FL area for the following items.

Electrical - New charging, monitoring and complete check up.
Engine - Perkins 4-108.
Fiberglass, Gel Coat, Blister repair, bottom job.

The boat is a 1981 Gulfstar 39' Sailmaster.

Thanks for any help.

Hey, no Florida sailors out there or just no Daytona Beach sailors?

It is hard to believe there isn't anybody with DB local info out there in the net. A few years ago just south of you in Ponce Inlet there were a couple of good shops. Sorry but I don't have the names anymore. If you go check out Ponce at least "Down The Hatch" is a good place to eat. Good luck.

I actually don't think there is a suitable sailboat yard in Daytona. The closest good yard I can think of is Oasis in St. Augustine.

I can fix anything!
But, I not there :(
I not sure on this. Most you mention is not hard, but, you not need some flabbergaster to rip you off either. A good machine shop can fix your engine. This I know! But, as you ask, who good? I not ever go to a engine rebuilder place that mainly talk basically car engine stuff and can not tell me what engine a 120 inboard-outboard Mercury is. I have a machinist that do anything I need. I have known this man from when I was 16. He taught me how to put rings on a piston by hand and no fancy tools required. He told me what engine was in my boat from numbers on the block. He find parts that many will say do not exist (Not superman ....... He the machinist!). I not need him much today, but, usually have him Re-work heads (I can do this) and boil my block out (I not have the equipment). Well, his son-in-law now. But, his expertise is within the company. There probably someone there, I just could not honestly say who.
Maybe someone can help. I will do some networking on this and see if I learn anything worth mentioning.

Thanks for the replies, someone must of used people in the Daytona Beach area, maybe they will reply today.

camaraderie 12-19-2007 11:40 AM's a link to the Halifax Harbor Marina's vendor page. This is a good marina but has no haulout facility and has a West Marine on the property....nevertheless...there are good mobile vendors there that can do in-water work and can also probably direct you to whatever yard can haul-out that is closest. I would think the surveyors linked would know this. Hope this helps:

Thanks CAM, that's were the boat is docked and I thought that they were a likely starting place. I will also ask the Surveyor (Bobby Brown) and the broker. My main worry is the electrical work as I know next to nothing about this and want it done right.

I think there is a boat yard near the Southern end just North of the southern most bridge. I think the name is Adventure boat yard(?)
It also seems that on down near Ponce inlet there is another marina with a travel lift that I saw some larger yachts at last Oct.
Sorry I don't have more detailed information. Everything I have is on the boat in Marathon and I am in Tennessee.
