Most deck prisms have hardware that come with it to mount it to the deck. The one you have sounds like it isn't a real deck prism, but one that is sold as a decorative paperweight.

i think you are right; the one's i've seen online are much larger and clear. i would still like to use it though, as i have seen these coloured ones installed and they glow with such intense, beautiful light when the sun is out. i wonder how well epoxy bonds to glass.

Take a glass bottle and epoxy it to a piece of plywood; find out.

The problem with not having the mounting hardware is the installation has a much higher chance of leaking. That's bad.

When we bought our Skookum 53 it had 2 rectangular ones in focsile. Very nice. The surveyer said they were fine, but mentioned that those which are circular in cross-section were considered a a fire hazard by some insurance companies, and putting one of those in could invalidate our insurance. I have seen some of the circular ones, and they do seem to focus the light in the middle of the beam.

You definitely need to install it with hardware. It will be walked on and you don't want something on deck that can't be walked on.

Use 5200... no leaks. Bfore you non 5200 guys chastise me, 5200 or other sealant is the same arguement as Ginger vs Maryanne.... Wilma vs Betty etc.
