wax hatch seal?

I built a hatch in my cockpit to access the engine. Its beautiful and almost finished, but what would you use to caulk it? I have access the engine once or twice a season. I even thought about parafin- wax? drips are not the end of the world but annoying bigtime.

I would use fuel resistant a neoprene or urethane ''rubber'' gasket. I would use silicone to adhere the gasketing to the deck and not use a caulk on the underside of the hatch where the gasket hits the hatch. With adequate bolting, there should be adequate compression on the gasket to prebvent leaks.
