Standard Horizon HX270S VHF

Anyone familiar with the Standard Horizon HX270S Handheld VHF Radio?

I'm looking for a simple, reliable, affordable handheld VHF and have basically narrowed my search to the above model. Does anyone own this radio or have any comments about it?

Thanks!

I have the HX471 and think it is an excellent radio. The HX270 should be a solid unit too, but without some of the additional features of the 471. The SH gear is pretty solid and very durable. My only complaint, and this probably applies to the HX270s you're looking at, is there is no visible battery level indicator that I've been able to find. NONE. So keep it charged..

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Thanks for the feedback SD.

The Standard Horizon website claims the HX270s has "...an easy to see battery life indicator on the LCD warns you when the battery needs recharging."

I have the HX370S which is pretty similar. It's sturdy, the audio quality is pretty good for a handheld, and battery life seems excellent. I'm generally pretty happy with it.
