hatch refurbishing

We have an Irwin 32 and have always been plagued with hatch leeks. This is the time and we have decided to rebuild and rebed them. Mark had some trouble getting the hatches out but once out noticed the bedding compound appeared sparse. We are having new acrylic cut and he is going to install it in the hatches before putting the hatches back in the boat. Has anyone else done this?
Also, has anyone ever rebuilt the ratchet hinges on these Lewmar hatches?

Check this article out:http://sailingmagazine.net/technique0106.html. It gives a pretty good description of replacing the lenses. I followed these steps to do mine and they turned out good. I bought hinge kits from West Marine and got the acrylic from a local glass shop. Sikaflex products are available at Jamestown distributors. Take your time and make sure everything is as clean as you can get it, then clean it again. This will allow the sealer to do its job. Good luck!
