Kariba Washer

We have a Kariba washer/dryer on board. The washer goes through its cycles and the door lock light comes on at the start of the cycles and goes out at the end of the cycles However, the door will not open. The little information in the book says not to force the door or the handle (plastic) will break. Any ideas how we can open the door?
Thanks,
Jim
