speedometer

We have a 1969 32'' Chris Craft, with a failed speedometer. We sail this boat on Lake Michigan, so it is currently still out for spring maintenance. The exposed propeller, at the end of the speedometer cable is deteriorated (about 2/3 of one blade left out of three original blades.) We''re hoping that this is the only problem, but would love to hear some suggestions on obtaining a replacement kit. It seems that it might make sense to also replace the cable, if that is even doable.

Any how-to or where-to-find suggestions? Writing on controls, etc. indicates that it is a SUM LOG, from VDO.

Thank you!

I would imagine that you are looking at obsolete technology since all modern knotmeters are electrical but VDO instruments is still in business and I would suggest that you contact them. You may be able to purchase an instrument with the same face but with modern internals.

How difficult is it to install a new knotmeter?
