Cockpit drains

Hey everyone,

I need some help with replacement cockpit drains for my 30' Citation. I removed one to get an idea of what to look for only to find that it was a
1-1/4 lavatory tail pc. Is it possible this is what Irwin used? I really would like to install the correct drain fitting with a check in it. Can anyone help with some links or advice on what to use. As alway thanks in advance for any leads.

Pictures or a little more detailed description of what you intend to accomplish might be helpful here. To me, "lavatory tail piece" reads as "standard plumbing fitting" and not anything out of the ordinary.

Unfortunately, your profile does not say where you sail, so it's hard to answer. To save money many builders used undersized cockpit drains which are fine if your a bay sailor only.

If you do any open ocean sailing though you might as well up size, while your at it, to at least two inch drains. Having been pooped before I know how long a cockpit can take to drain and it seems like hours even with BIG drains.

Like I said if you're bay sailing 1 1/4 is mostly fine but 2" is far better. 1 1/2 should be considered minimum for cockpit drains though.. Any chandlery will sell the supplies you need but do get drains with debris screens...

Thanks for bring up the point about how important the profile is! I'll take a few minutes to fix that. Hey thanks for the drain info, I agree 2 is alot better than 1-1/4. I'd have to alter Irwin's factory molded floor in the cockpit area to install a 2" drain. I'll try to attach a pic so you can see what was installed. Let me know what you think.

gg30...I don't imagine you're doing much more than lake or bay sailing in a Citation 30 so the 1.5" scuppers should be fine. No need to go to the expense that installing 2" + hoe+ new through hulls would entail.
Why do you need a check valve as you said in your first post?

Yep those are sink drain tail pieces. If your sailing in benign conditions you can replace those with the same but don't forget to cross your drains below deck..

There are 2 of these drains in the cockpit, they are installed in the floor and both have a drain hoses attached that lead to through hulls above the water line. On the 1-1/2 scuppers will I need one with a ball in it? or just a plain scupper. or do all scuppers have a ball check? The cockpit floor in the Citation is kinda molded for the drains, the pic you looked at is what was installed down in a recess in the floor with a 3" strainer plate screwed over the top of it. The cockpit floor has recessed grooves molded into the floor that lead to these drains. I saw a Forespar cockpit drain fitting that was straight with a barbed end for a hose. I'll see if I can find it and attach a link to see what you think.
