Anchors for anchor rollers

I''d appreciate some input regarding what anchor to keep as a primary anchor on the bow roller of my PS Dana 24.

I sail in an area with primarily muddy/clayey/and sometimes sand bottoms. My primary danforth alway held well for the Westerly 25; on the Westerly I kept it on the foredeck on chocks.

This spring I picked up a Pacific Seacraft Dana 24 @ about 9000-10000 pounds cruising displacement. The Dana is equiped with a short bowsprit with double anchor rollers. It came with an adequately sized danforth, but I don''t think this boat has been anchored much. I anchor frequently.

Sorry, hit the wrong button. Here''s the rest. I anchor frequently, and it looks to me that the stock on the Danforth would catch on the bowsprit bobstay. Are the plow anchors the logical choice for the anchor rollers? From what I gather from the other discussion threads, it seems like the Bruce may be a good choice for the mud and clay bottoms I frequent, and at the same time fit well on the bow roller for ready use (without a windlass) Comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Bruce for the clay, Danforth for the soft mud.

CQR for all those listed conditions best all around anchor on the market. It is time proven. Always take care setting any anchor. Bruces are good but not in as many different bottoms.

I''d have to dissagree with you on that.
The CQR is truly time tested and is a fine anchor however, the Bruce (also a fine anchor)is far better with low rotio scopes.
The Bruce is not time tested because it has only been around for about fifteen years or so but it''s on it''s way to being just that! More and more people that try the Bruce give up their CQR''s and danforth''s.I personally think danforth''s are junk.If a danforth drags, all you are doing is trolling for rocks and grass. They are also poor at resetting themselves and if they get clogged and break-out, they WON''T reset.
I''ve never had a problem with my Bruce.EVER. I have seven anchors and the Bruce IS my main working and overnight hook. I keep a Bruce thirty-three and a CQR twenty-five on my bow platform,the rest are in the basement.
