Fuel line maintenance

I have just replaced the fuel line between my tank and the Racor. Are the brass screw on fittings supposed to have some sealing goop or teflon tape or anything on them?

you can use teflon, but the pink colour, as it is for fuel products

thread sealant.. much better than teflon tape. Loctite makes a good one you can get at specialty plumbing stores.. military keeps an amazing variety of fluids from leaking with the stuff

I think the pipe dope works better on the smaller fittings, under 1/2". I generally just use teflon on anything larger but know those who even use both! Probably one or the other and you'll be fine.

If you're putting something together that you'll be taking off fairly frequently, like a filter bowl, or that's made of plastic threads, I'd strongly recommend silicone grease. Available at your local pool store.
