What is it called and Where do I get....

it?

I have a Pearson 10M that has the main/halyard raised on the mast with a winch. I am thinking of of bringing the halyard back to the cockpit for singlehanding ease.

My mast is keel stepped, so I am looking for a collar or plate that can be installed around the mast (either before or after it is stepped) so that I can connect a block through which I can lead the hayard back to the cockpit. I have tried to check the various hardware vendors (Harken, Schaefer, Lewmar, etc.) for a this item, but can't seem to find it as I really don't know what they are called. I was trying Mast Deck Plate, Mast Collar Block and other variations. I have seen ones for deck stepped masts, just not keel stepped ones.

Ideas?

Thanks.

DrB

Alternatively you can mount turning blocks on the mast or on the deck itself. Spring loaded stand-up blocks work, but there are also specific deck mounted turning blocks that you install in line with the lead to the turning blocks aft and outboard.

Mounting the blocks on the mast will put less load on your deck partners.

Basically, what you're looking for is a mast collar to fit the mast partners at the deck. I doubt that anyone sells one. You can have one made up by any decent SS fabricator.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

SailorMitch will become famous soon enough
Post this on the Pearson email list here on Sailnet. There are lots of 10M owners on there who can help. Alternatively, visit www.pearsoninfo.net and check Dan Pfeiffer's 10M site. He owns one now (previously owned a P-26.) If he doesn't say anything about that in his site, send him an email from the website.

Selden calls it a deck ring and rail. The rail is where you'd attack turning blocks. Page 62 of their catalog (warning - instead of a nice PDF catalog, they've done it in something like Flash. I hate these kind of websites!)

RigRite sells something they call a Halyard Organizer meant for this purpose at http://rigrite.com/Spars/SparParts/Mast_hinges.html (scroll to the bottom). Saw this installed on a CD25 site at http://pws.prserv.net/cbrey/Winter_2004.html. Bascially it's an SS plate that allows you to attach blocks that can be used to run halyards back to the cockpit. A picture is worth a thousand words, so...
