Selden Bowsprit

I have a new Jeanneau 36i and am getting an asymetrical cruising spinnaker. Jeanneau has a pretty slick retractable bow sprit that will get the spinnaker tack three feet or so foward of the headstay. This allows a bigger spinnaker or easier handling (supposedly) for a standard size spinnaker.

Does anyone have this rig? Is this sprit worth the cost and effort?

While I don't have a Jeanneau, I do have a retractable bowsprit on my boat that does much the same thing. I like it and wouldn't get a boat without it, but that's just MHO.

You might try also posting this at www.jeanneau-owners.com forum too. As there are about 3-5 folks with 36i's on that forum, along with a few 39i's, along with Jeanneau's back to the 60's and 70s models! Myself with an 85.

I have looked at doing this to my rig, but not at this time, just have a tack line led back to the cockpit, with a pulley on the bow.

What SD said.... I've sailed on both and gybing an asym is a lot easier with the sprit.
