Connecting Furuno Navtex to Raystar GPS

I have installed a Furuno Navtex Nx300. This unit duplicares as a nav station if connected to a GPS outputting position in NMEA 0183 format.
Incidentally, the yellow and green cable coming from the Raystar 125 GPS need to be connected respectively to the white and blue cables form the Navtex. I have done the connection and so far so good and the Navtex reads lat and long, which enables the instrument do autodefine what stations to filter out. BUT... the date and time coming from the GPS do not appear in the screan and this makes me assume that it won't be able to calculate SOG either. One more fact: I called Furuno and they said that probably it depends from the GPS not transmitting in ZDA format (???) and maybe this could be reprogrammed. At this point I'm totally lost. You'd need to call Raymarine and see what NMEA strings the Raystar 125 is capable of outputting, and if there is any way to modify it. It may also be an issue with what version software/firmware your Raystar 125 has in it. It may need to be updated.

OK. I have to give up. It seems that NMEA protocols are in no way a guarantee for integration. Instruments do talk to each other, but nobody guarantees that they speak the same language and use same words (sentences). In my case the Navtex call Time and Date "ZDA" while Raymarine call it "RMC". The result is that the date/time line of my Furuno Navtex will stay empty. No big deal, but I like things when they work they way they should.
