Money makers while cruising...

As a means of supplementing my cruising kitty I am considering taking a sail and canvass repair course.

I am also considering a course on refrigeration repairs.

My thoughts are both skill sets would be in demand.

Any thoughts out there?

refer repair would be the better payoff, imho

Just be aware that as a general rule, you won't be able to make money for this kind of work, but will generally have to barter your services if you're cruising. Most cruisers are on relatively limited budgets and won't want to pay cash if they can barter instead.

I'd agree that refrigeration is probably the better of the two.

I see CP is still planning on starving during his cruise.

I'd think that diesel engine repair skills would pay well also - and no one would expect you to carry spare parts for someone elses boat.
Reefer repair - most of the problems are plumbing or electrical or and mainly gas leakage/need a recharge.
Best repairman in the world can't fart freon(or equivalent) so unless he's carrying a 50 pound cannister he ain't helping much now is he?

I'll make my barter-buck as a barber. I have lots of self practice at that and comedian du jour.
