Question How many change the oil in the spring?

Assuming you changed your oil for winterizing...
  1. Do you change it again in the spring?
  2. You don't bother again till fall?
  3. Only go by the engine hours?
I do change it again in the spring after a good run around the creek, but I was wondering if that's really necessary? Little $$ to extend the life of a motor has been my plan?

why? If you changed it in the Fall and have not run it in the winter, it's still new, uncontaminated oil. Sounds like it's more of a feel-good job which I admit to doing myself but not this one.

Changing it in the fall, as part of the winterizing, means you don't have to change it in the spring. The real reason you change it in the fall is to get all the nasty used motor oil and acids out of the engine so that it doesn't sit in them all winter long.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I change it every 100 hours. If it happens in the spring, fall or in between. Every 100 hours.

By the way, the engine (3100 hours) started on the first crank today and we had a lovely sail.

31 oil changes!

I change the oil in the fall to a winter weight, more for the effect of not wearing out the babin in the bearings, as most engine failure is at start up, due to the fact not much lubricate is on the bearings. Then come spring or when I feel it's safe I then change again to a light weight. As well have samples of both changes tested at a lab for information on depoists in the oil.

I change in the fall as part of winterization for the reasons Dog outlined above (acids). No need to change again in the spring. Then we change every 120-150 hours (my engine specs call for 200 hrs). Always starts on the first crank.

I change in mid June and in the late fall when I winterize unless I have more than 100 hours on the engine between

I started changing the oil again in the spring as a result of a recommendation of a diesel mechanic, he said the even if the oil was changed, that contaminates and moisture, degrade the quality of the oil after three months or so. It made sense at the time, but as I was getting ready for spring I questioned it, sounds like it may be just a waste of time and materials

Change it in the Fall not the Spring per my mechanics recommendation. He said it would be a waste to change it again.

Fall, oil change when hauled. Spring, fuel filters.
