Canvas work - cost opinion

Assume a 37 footer and you had the following work done

mainsail cover
Staysail cover
8x14 boom tent with gabeled ends
foward hatch cover
Butterfly hatch cover with isening glass
Mast boot cover
Helm Station cover

All Sunbrilla Fabric

So what would you have paid for this work ???

I thought I would bump this one time then let it die,if it sounded like I was trying to sell something....I am not

I had the above mention canvas work completed; When I set out looking for a contractor, I wasn't looking for the best deal, I was looking for qualty of workmanship.

Once I found what I was looking for, I got a quote, sat on it for awhile, continued to watch his work and then eventually let him loose on everything.

I am extremely pleased with what I got and the time frame in which I got it, however, I really don't know what the value of this work is and I was a little reluctent to pass info on to those in the San Diego area, But, I will anyhow, since I feel this is a good way to express my appriciation for his workmanship and his timely manner.

The company is San Diego Canvas & upholstery and the guys name is Luis, the above mentioned canvas work was under 2000.00, may not be the best deal, but the workmanship is there and that's what counted most.

If this is considered spam. then by all means delete it

I recently paid about $800 for a Sunbrella mainsail cover for a 42' boat, also top quality. I think you got a good deal if they did fine work. You might have paid a bit less for a so so job but quality counts in the long run.

You got a good deal IMHO, and it isn't spam if you don't have a financial interest in the business.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I think that's a pretty good deal. I also think I got ripped off.

I had a mainsail cover repaired, and a jib bag repaired. Total cost to me was $400.

I don't know what the driver was. There was another place that I talked to about making the repairs, and without fail, every time I talk to them I get off the phone and think, "What a-holes!". So, I went elsewhere.

The final price was almost twice the estimate. But, I never got the estimate in writing. So as another said, I've lived and I've learned. They'll not get my business again.

Pappy,
Good deal. Show photo's.
I've seen prices like that just for remaking a dodger (just the canvas) on a Catalina 30 - and they had the old one for a pattern.
