VIEXILE is on a distinguished road
The age old question: adding a second headstay . . .

I''m wondering if one couldn''t add a detachable inner stay within inches of the masthead in a position that wouldn''t chafe, maybe via a through bolted bail/toggle with the lower end having a pelican hook setup to a chainplate next aft of the furling gear OR adjacent to the furling gear, remaining ever wary of contact chafe. I''ve got new furling gear but want to hold on to my spitfire and storm jibs as hank on. The only possibility of using two headsails would be downwind work. Of course, any chainplate would be attached to the hull or I''d connect to the bowpiece. The bottom line use would be heavy weather. Waste of time?
