It will greatly depend on transducer...most sonar ducers transmit at a much higher frequency and with more power, and more frequently than a standalone ducer used merely for depth. However, the charter that comes with it will often allow you to customize settings and I believe turn off the enhanced transmit. If you are just a weekend sailor probably will not effect you tremendously...
A fish+depth ducer of one popular brand draws 1.5 amps of power.
