reconditioning my winches

I am reconditioning four winches on my CT-38. I took the first drum to the rechrome place and told him NOT to polish the rough area. He did great and the drum looks better than new. I took in the second, and you guessed it, he polished it smooth. Question.........How do I reestablish the rough area on the drum? Will grit blasting do the trick? If so, do I have the new chrome stripped off first, then grit blast, then have it all rechromed again? Are there any other methods to reestablish the rough area? HELP!!!!

Best bet is to have a machine shop knurl the area. That will be far more controlled than using a grit blasting process. The other choice would be to paint it with anti-skid deck paint, but I don't think that would be a good long-term solution.

Did you talk to the guy at the rechrome place, since this is his fault, unless you didn't specifically warn him again.
