Did you try calling Hunter? How bad is the old mast step? You can often re-build a mast step or remove it and have someone build a new one from measurements taken from it if it isn't too bad. What is the old mast stem made of??
I'd say you should post a photo of it, but the picture posting on sailnet is basically broken most of the time... and you'll need 10 posts to post a photo from flickr or photobucket.
