Rebuilding Barinet 22 winches

How do I get the drum off my Barinet 22 winches, their is some kind of a clip on top of the winch where the handle goes in.

Great artile on rebuilding Barient winches in the new issue of Good Old Boat. If I recall, the first step is to pry the ring clip out with a screwdriver blade.

What Mazzy is referring to is called a split ring, sort of like a one inch diameter slinky but with only two turns in it. You can usually hook a srewdriver blade into the edge of the spilt and pop the ring over the spindle top.

Smile Outstanding, thank you.

That did it, I stopped by my local West Marine and bought a copy of the March/April issue of Good Old Boat magazine and right there on page 20 were detailed instructions on how to rebuild my Barient 22 winches. I followed the directions and now my winches work better than ever. Thanks a ton.
