Catalina 27 Rudder Repair

In my purchase survey some pitting was noted at the rudder post, between top of rudder and hull. Can this be repaired? If the post is hollow, can reinforcment be added to the tube, such as a rod surrounded by resin filler, or..?
I don't want to replace the rudder if it's not necessary.

Try asking in the Catalina forum on "Builder's Row".. You should be able to get info on rudder stock construction/issues there.
