What oating / sealant on diesel tank fittings

I am installing my old fuel line fitting, on my new diesel tank (as new fitting didn't have return line fitting). The new fittings had a white sealant of some sort. It was not teflon tape, as it resembled white paint.

Any idea what is the best thing to use when retightening the fittings?

Sure it wasn't just standard pipe dope?

Pipe dope - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I know that I've used a special pink PTFE tape for my gasoline fittings on the old Atomic 4, but I don't know of any special requirements like that for diesel.

Use liquid pipe dope and definitely not teflon...but check the label as not all pipe dopes are petroleum compatible.
