Question Lasdrop Shaft Seal...Help?

I inherited from my Uncle a "Lasdrop" Shaft Seal by Lemania Company. Does anyone know if it is considered a drip-less stuffing box replacement, it seems it is due to the lack of mention of packing needed. The kit came with a stainless ring, bellow, clamps, etc.

I would really like to use it because for one I need to repack the box plus the the flexible tubing due to some cracking.

I assume I still use the packing nuts? Both?

Thanks

While I'm familiar with the PSS drip-less seal, I believe that "lasdrop" is direct competition and works in a very similar fashion.

From your description of the parts, it sounds right. I gather you got no documentation with it?

btw- no you won't be using the packing nuts....

Here's a link that might help:

I installed a lasdrop seal on my boat. They have a few models and all are "dripless". They run the usual variety of nylon ring based and graphite ring. Since yours has bellows, it is probably a graphite ring type - the nylon one uses a regular reenforced hose.

As mentioned above, the site is Lasdrop Shaft Seals. They are relatively helpful on the phone too, though somewhat cavalier in attitude. The seal I have is closing on 200 hours of motoring right about now.

Excellent!

I am glad to hear the company is still in business, I had never heard of them. I will call to order a back up bellow tube and get some further info about this model.

The unit is pretty old, but after looking at the website I think I got and I was able to locate the instructions after all. (LOL they are printed from a typewriter if that says how old it is.)

I assume there may be some adjustment needed after the install but once its in no need to do much? "O" rings maybe?

Thanks a million!

I don't know about graphite ring units, but the rubber type presumably need no service other than being replaced once in a while (they also sell you a backup ring, and the housing has a split face, so it can be replaced without pulling the shaft one time. No adjustment either as long as it sits properly on the shaft.

The company is definitely low key, but I found them when looking for a new seal - they were the only ones that sell direct on the net and still have the rubber ring seal type. The prices are also very reasonable.
