I've cleaned winches with diesel, a wire brush, and light sanding with great results:

I would be remiss if I did not thank everyone that responded. The winches were pretty nasty but the Coleman Fuel did a great job of cleaning everything up.

The vodka stayed in the Bloody Mary's.

Next week I am going to tackle the large 48s.
