Caution using wire reinforced water hose

This has happened to us twice now! We had some work done by a great company and they replaced the head intake hose from thru hull to a t valve and then hose from water pump to facet. BOTH of these failed. They had used the wire reinforced, clear water hose. I heard that sick high pitched sound under the sink and found the leak there. Fixed that. Then when opening the thru hull noticed a small pool of water...hmmmm. The wire worked it's way right through the hose and created a leak. The company has stopped using that hose. If you have it on your boat, check it. This is NOT the black wire reinforced hose, but the clear water hose reinforced with wire.

Thanks for posting that - is this a documented manufacturer defect as well? It would be great if you could post any pictures of the busted hose - as some would not know if they have it or not but visually...

Thanks again!

Don't confuse the polyester fiber-reinforced clear hose with the wire reinforced clear hose. They look a lot alike.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Good point Sailingdog...and I tried to stress that it is the wire reinforced clear water hose...it is NOT the polyester fiber reinforced clear hose. The manufacturer says it is not a problem, however, the company who did the work has stopped using it and made one of the repairs on our boat and did not charge. The one leak at the thru hull could have been a real mess. Thank GOODNESS I CLOSE my thru hulls when I'm away for any length of time Oh but that's a discussion on another thread! Jody, I'll try and post a picture too.
