Propeller Nut Torque

I had the yard pull the propeller on our Pearson 28 (1" shaft) so I could have it rebalanced. Great--I've got this shiny, balanced propeller and a new cotter pin, slid on the propeller followed by the two nuts. But how much torque on the nuts? With very little effort on a wrench, they've cleared the hole for the pin. The prop shop guy said to use the outer nut to tighten up the inner.

What's my move here?

Tighten up the inner nut with a wrench, you can get maybe 40 or 50 lbs. Then the outer nut to about the same. The outer nut will lock the inner nut in place. Don't forget the cotter pin.

No big deal, just crank both nuts down as tight as you can without breaking anything. BTW, contrary to popular belief, the thin nut goes on first with the thick one going on after it.

Don't grease it either. It helps it go on, and come off.

Thanks guys. No grease (got that from the propeller guy too), inner small, then outer large. Pretty darn tight. Cotter pin.
