Refrigeration

I am looking to put a new refrigeration system in my Passport 40. I currently have the original Glacier Bay which has been fixed for the last time. I have already sunk about $2500 into it. Next time it goes out it's gone.

I am looking at Cool Blue which is not water cooled and only comes with one plate which doesn't thrll me. The other system I saw was a Frigo system which requires another through hull install, therefore more expensive all around.

Is there any other system I should be entertaining?

Many thanks,
Windthief

Check out the BD XP system from SeaFrost...they can make up systems for you with or without water cooling and with single or dual plates and all piping and fittings to your box specifications. Pricing is quite reasonable i think and I've had good luck with them and the product.
bd 12 & 24 volt

Note...the air cooled BD/XP version with two 12x21" plates and all fittings/thermostat is $2035, $2250 if you want it water cooled as well.

I had a Grunert double box systems fail shortly after we bought the boat. I pulled it all out and resurrected one of the boxes with an Adler Barber outfit for under $1,000. We're using it for a refrigerator box, but I went with the large evaporator so it could be used as a freezer box as well. Power consumption in our neck of the woods is good. I understand these outfits can be taxed in the tropics though. We considered a water cooled condenser but decided against after a little research on Robert Kohlman's (sp?) website.

Seafrost

I'd second the Seafrost suggestion....Cleave Horton, the owner, has been terrific to work with.

I reeeeeally like our Frigoboat keel-cooled. Yeah, I know, cut another thru-hull. But it's all worth it when we only use 18 amp-hours per day when we're in 70-degree water.
