Keel nuts, bolts, loctite, et al..
Wanted to confirm something with the group.
I replaced the keel nuts and washers on my boat with some stainless backing plates, new washers and nuts. The keel studs are stainless, and I replaced with all stainless nuts and washers.
I was told that when you replaced the nuts with similar metal ie stainless nuts to stainless keel stud that if you don't use a threadlocker they will work lose. And therfore that is why some boat builders had used mild steel nuts.
True or false?
I will say that when I replaced the nuts and torqued them (w/o loctite) a week later they had backed off somewhat and were not torqed. I just put on loctite blue today. So we'll see. As background - when i removed the old bolts - they did not have a threadlocker and they were easy to remove with a small socket wrench.
