2QM15 Engine Zinc

Our "new" 1980 Irwin 30 is powered by a 2QM15. The engine zinc appears to be located facing aft under what appears to be a large square head. I haven''t been able to replace the zinc, because I can''t turn the square cover. What am I doing wrong?

Not applying enough torque to remove the zinc pencil from the heat exchanger. ..... get a bigger wrench (not an adjustable wrench). Try tapping the wrench with a hammer in clockwise (tightening) direction a bit before turning it counter-clockwise (loosen).

RichH, I had a 2QM15 in my old boat and this is a raw water cooled engine. It doesn''t have a heat exchanger, the zincs are bolted right into the engine. But I agree with you solutions to remove the bolthead. Just keep working on it. It should come out.

Hmmm....can''t recall. Get a caliper and measure it. Then go to Sears and get the exact closed and boxed end wrench. It will be worth the extra cost

Finally got this job done last Friday. The cover nut takes a 22mm wrench. After liberal doses of PB Blaster & tapping it came off by hand!! Thanks for your help.

Pull up Mack Boring they are the east coast premier Yanmar dealers. Great people and they will take care of you.
