A 5hp snowblower costs $400, but a 5hp outboard costs $1200...They have roughly the same amount of moving parts. I would love to get rid of my dirty, smelly, 20 year old outboard but I cannot justify the cost.

The previous owner paid $900 for this 5hp 2 stroke back in 1989, it has like 6 moving parts, Now that's crazy. My first 3 cars combined didn't cost $900.

Yeah, a load of crap. The Honda 225 has the same engine that's in my van, a van that cost $28,000 new (Mine's an EX, LX's cost about $25,000 IIRC in 2002). I bet the outboard costs at least $20,000. I can't seem to find a price online.

my snowblower won't tolerate salt water very well and lasts me about ten years blowing non salt snow. My 2 stroke OB is going on 13 years of saltwater use..

Ariens Snowblower $1349.00
Johnson 4 hp. two stroke $789.00

If you want to compare an MTD/YardMan quality $500.00 snowblower to an outboard then you need to compare it price wise to a Briggs and Stratton outboard for a fair comparison.

My Ariens snowblower is comparable in snowblower quality to my Johnson outboard and a YardMan or MTD at $500.00 are not they are comparable to the P.O.S Briggs and Stratton outboard..

My snowblower gets blasted with saltwater every time I use it, it gets covered with the salty slushy crap at the end of my driveway, then gets stored in the garage where it stays covered with salt slush until spring. It's a 4 stroke, and my main beef is that a 4 stroke outboard with the same power and possibly the same exact engine costs three times as much.
