Garmin 478 chartplotter

I have recently purchase a Garmin 478 chartplotter and have been unsuccessful in downloading routes from my Offshore Navigator Light MapTech software on my computer to the chartplotter. Maptech does not have the driver software for this unit listed in their downloads. Has anyone found a way to download using Maptech.

Connect the unit to the computer using the NMEA 0183 serial port, rather than the USB port. Maptech Offshore Navigator Light should have no problems with talking to the GPS then.

You will need the data cable as well as a serial port on your computer, and you'll need to make sure the Garmin is set to transmit in NMEA 0183 mode, which is 4800, 8, n, 1. The default is usually Garmin's proprietary serial protocol, which MapTech's software won't recognize.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
