Each day brings another question. My teak was varnished (yeah, I know, mistake) but now it is all sanded, washed and ready for finishing. Years ago before the devel made me
varnish, I used Sikkens Cetol. I am thinking of using that again but I have choices. The transluscent clear seems to be the best buy because it is available in a gallon. For the same price, I'd get about 2-1/2 qts but that is the way it is with all
paints. Gallons are more economical.
Another choice is the Sikkens "natural teak" which looks like it would be darker. Of course, it only comes in quarts.
Is there a recommendation? What about Teak so le'? or other product? My boat will be used for both racing and evening cruising.
On the subject of teak, I really hate finishing it off the boat, mount, plug holes, cut flush, sand and refinished over the plugs. For some items, which mount through with nuts on the inside, I epoxied through bolts in the wood. The long
hatch slider boards have to be screwed to the topside so isn't an option. Either I do the plug thing or I plug first, finish and use a flat head screw countersinked in the wood with a dab of sealant under the screw head. It won't look as nice but it will eliminate the extra step of sanding and finishing on board. Any thoughts?
