wet/dry vac

I'd like to buy a small wet/dry shop vac for the boat. I saw a 12 volt model last winter. Looking for first hand experience with 12 volt shop vacs.

Or, looking for suggestions on small 110 volt shop vacs.

I bought a 2 gallon sears for $35.00 last summer. Works well and the size makes it easy to stow.

EDIT: I should always remember to drink my coffee before posting on sailnet. My vac is 110 volt and as not dc.

12 volt vacs

I've bought and tried every model 12 volt vac I could find. I was living in a solar powered house where the only power at the time was 12v. I've since upgraded to an inverter system providing 120ac. All of the 12v vacs were worthless. Poorly made and practically no suction. This was a large factor in the decision to move to a 120ac system.

Bought a cheap plastic one called a Stinger at Home Depot. Find it very useful. Gets the last couple of drops of water out of the bilge. 110V.

I bought a shop vac hang up mini for my boat. I tried to fing a good pic of it hanging up with all the accesories, but couldn't find one. Here's a good pic of what it comes with. The item in the center of the pic is the bracket to hang it. The vac fits in a very small space, but seems to have good power as well. You can find them at walmart or home depot for 25 bucks or so. The 12 VDC vacs are terrible. I'd highly recommend going with a 110 VAC shop vacuum as the most economical solution.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

If you own DEWALT cordless tools, you might look for a DEWALT Cordless/Corded Vac DC500. Runs of 120V or battery. Battery or charger are not part of the shop vac! Battery only lasts a couple of minutes, good for a quick job.
