Have seen this done before - makes sense. We had a boat with a severly raked transom and within a couple of years of an
awlgrip refit the transom was noticeably faded - and this in an area that was not renowned for sunshine! Our problem was that our area was notoriously windy and we couldn't really figure out a way to keep a cover in place without doing more potential damage than the sun did.
Elastic edges seem the way to go, but chafing/scratching the topsides may occur depending on the material chosen. Sunbrella would last but may be on the "scratchy" side, esp when new.
Using weights to hold things down may work too, but there you have the issue of "knocking" the hull when your retrieve or install the cover... hanging the weights below the surface will make things green and slimy...
Probably a softer material with a gathered hem that 'grabbed onto' the counter, and the upper ends tied to a toerail/cleat would be the trick.
