Check .....

Check the input voltage on regular old computer speakers. Many use an Ac to DC converter or "wall wart" to reduce the 120v AC down to 12v DC. Don't be fooled by speakers that specifically call themselves "iPod Speakers" you'll only pay more..

Why not install an iPod ready car stereo from Wal*Mart?

$6 bucks for a FM transmitter.

I use one for my ipod and when watching movies on the laptop. Plugs into the headphone jack on both and transmits to the house speakers over the normal boat stereo. Makes movies on the hook much better.

Cool function: Can take the Ipod anywhere on board and adjust volume from the Ipod in your hand.

Chev - The Bose sound dock is probably the best, but its kind of big and expensive. Logitechs are good and so are the JBLs.

This is what I have. They have good sound for a single room, good on the boat. I don't like the design as much as I thought I would. It would be great if the ipod could travel in the case, and the cord too.

If you go too small, the sound will get kind of "tinny". If you don't have an apple store around you, look for a Target or a Wal-mart, they have them. Its really subjective and you should look before you buy them online.

I would stay away from the FM transmitter if you value sound at all. A stereo with an ipod hook up is the way to go if thats in the cards for your boat. Also, there is are solar charge panels for the ipod.
