Have you used poli glow? If so what does poli prep do?

Does poli prep just clean the boat? Also do you need to use five coats of poliglow?

If you search the forums for PoliGlow you'll find a number of discussions on it.

Poli prep is the pre-cleaner and works well when used as directed.

5 coats of poliglow on a clean new surface is a bare minimum if using it for the first time We used 6 - 8 coats on the topsides last summer, and plan to touch it up again soon. It's very easy and quick to apply, just don't apply it over stains and dirt because you'll just seal that stuff in.

While I'm very pleased with the results on the hull and cabin sides, I'm less enamoured of it in high traffic areas like the cockpit - it seems to glom onto sunscreens and body oils and discolours.

Does poliprep get rid of oxidation? Or do you have to use something else for that?

saurav16...the boat I watched being done last year was a dark blue hull that had bad oxidation. It was prepped first by wet sanding with 400 grit paper which REALLY made the boat look bad and was kind of scary!
Then the boat was washed down, poliprepped and 6 coats of poligloss were put on. It really gave a terrific shine and the boat looked transformed. A year later and she is still looking great...though not quite as shiny...but I would say he'll get 2-3 years out of the job.
I note that some say it yellows or peels. Have not seen anything like that on this boat but the hull color probably makes any yellowing unnoticable.

try this

I did it.

yes, it yellowed, not much, but "I" could see it. I odn't know if it was the 100 degree texas sun or the pollen, or what, but it did yellow.

Overall, I was very pleased!

Hello,

I have used Poliprep and poliglo on two different boats. The 'prep' is to clean the hull and remove oxidation. Note that Poliglo, like wax, makes the hull shiny. If there are stains and oxidation on the hull, you will end up with a shiny stained and oxidized hull.

Poliprep does a fair job of removing oxidation. It doesn't do a great job on heavily oxidized hulls, especially dark hulls. My boat has a white hull with red stripes. The red was very chalky. Poliprep worked fine on the hull not not good at all on the stripes. I had to wet sand them.

I put on 6 coats of poliglo, which is very easy to do. My last boat, which I poliglo'ed looked great two years after the original treatment.

Good luck,
Barry
