Datamarine depth sounder

If I get into thin water, mine will occassionally go to 0. That's lots of fun.

No signal return in depths above about 500 ft gives the message "_ _ _" with mine.
I presume a very soft, muddy seabed would give no echo and give the same symptom???

Most depth sounders at 300 ft or greater just either flash 0's or dashes indicating the excess of whatever prescribed depth the unit can handle...

Unless a alarm is going off - usually ok..
