Main Cunningham Size/Purchase/Line

Ok, main cunningham for my boat -Dehler 33, recommendations on size / type blocks, purchase, and size line, will be kept at mast base, not led back to the cockpit.

OK..as we spoke on the phone

Here is the arrangment ideal for you pretty nice fast sexy boat..price tag??

$160.00 complete with top of the line ropes and Carbo blocks by Harken...

Will go on your boat like diamond ear rings in Monica Bellucci's ears.

Don't forget:

1) to turn the cam cleat on the lower bock so it bites when you pull down and releases when you pull up..These are shipped with the cam cleat underneath. Remove block axix and rotate cleat so jaws are above not bellow
2) Install a Spring or a tennis ball so the lower fiddle is an upstand..it will need Viagra!!
3) On the lines, better to splice to reduce weakness caused by knot..
4) Use good shackles

Enjoy.while hot...as i am soon gone...

Also, the 12-strand dyneema lines are very slippery and few knots hold well in them. Spliciing is really your only good option IMHO.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Max,

While Alex's s the million dollar diamond earrings, you could also put a line tied at the boom, going up to a reef hook with a pulley attached, then down to the base of the mast and back to the cockpit. While "my cheaper" $$$ option does not have the reduction ratio that Alex's setup has, it will work on your boat. It was working on a C&C 115 i was crewing on a few weeks back just fine. Granted we needed a bit o winch to sometimes pull on it when the wind was up........

Both options work, one is creme de la creme, the other, basic bare bones. I personally for my 160# main, just have a line to a reef hook down to the mast base and to the cockpit. Less than $20 for my setup! Using a 3/16" braided line about 15' long. I have a small spare single pulley, I may attach it to the reef hook and see if this is easier to pull the clew down.
