rebuilding sureflo water pump

I have the 2088 sureflo water pump for my domestic water system. It worked for a while, then quit pumping. I put in a rebuild kit & it worked...for a while. Now it won't suck. I took off the input & output hoses and the pump runs but no suction. Is there some secret to rebuilding these pumps? Why would it run for a while and then quit sucking?

Do you have your pump above the tank outlet?

I can't get any suction with all lines DISCONNECTED. Just the pump & 12 volts. No suction on the input side.

Most pump are not ment to suck, only push. Feed the pump,it' hungry.

On the pump I replaced it with (same model) I can feel the air suction of the demand side of the pump. Same with this pump before it quit. The pump has to suck the water up out of the tank. The tank is several feet below the pump.

The pump assembly is pretty basic. Water sucked in by the impeller, and water pushed out. Could there be a blockage in the impeller housing? Could there be a leak at the impeller housing? Is the impeller really turning?

Sounds Like a warranty issue to me. Go get yourself a new pump

Suction side of pump

Most important u have no air leaks on suction side (inlet)
Some pumps need to be primed before they will pump.
Your pump may not have enough lift (vacuum) 4 the height it is above the tank.

Warantee? The boat is over 20 years old. The water system has been in place as standard equipment since new. I'm sure the water pump is not original but it's not new. The rebuild kit is new and didn't get the job done. BUT, it did work at one time. It's not lift and it's not pressure.

How simple can I make this...when the pump works properly, you CAN feel the suction. When it doesn't work right, you can't feel any suction. The motor runs and has torque but the pump does not pump.

Since you all don't seem to have specific experience rebuilding Sureflo pumps, I suggest you pass on giving more advice.

Thanks
