Question Catalina smile

Looking for imfo on repairing what is known as a Catalina smile on a 1976 30' ( Yes a Catalina) It is a horizontal crack on the leading edge of the keel at the keel/hull joint. Is this a major problem/ fix. I have been told it is somewhat a common occurance. What is best way to fix

There's a similar issue with the Islander 36.
You can find information on the islander36.org site, under maintainence-hull systems-major hull crack.

It depends on the cause of the smile.

If it is cause the keel bolt support, which IIRC was glassed over plywood, rotted, out, you'll probably have to drop the keel, re-build the keel bolt support and then re-bed the keel.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
